St Matthew's Church

St Matthew's Church

St Matthew’s Church was built as a daughter church of Aston Parish Church in 1840. However, the “daughter”, built to seat 1,300 people, was much bigger than the “mother” and became a parish church in its own right in 1942.

After serious structural problems became apparent in the 1990s, a major reordering project was undertaken costing over £1 million. This saw the rear part of the church transformed into offices and a business centre. The worship area was created in an imaginative project to restore the dilapidated church building for multiple usages. The worship area can seat 250 and is an attractive airy space with modern furniture, lighting and fitments, with a gallery, ancillary rooms and kitchen. A welcoming entrance foyer also leads into a sizeable church hall with a good kitchen. The front part of the church was rededicated for church use in 1994.
