Activities at St Matthew's Church

St Matthew’s accommodates a number of activities, detailed below.

• Scouting – Mondays 6:15pm to 7:45pm
• Toddler group – Wednesdays 9.30 am till 12 noon

Parent and Toddler group

A parent and toddler group meets in St Matthew’s church. It runs on Wednesday mornings during term-time for those not yet of school age. Although group size varies, we usually have a small group containing five to ten children, allowing for a very sociable atmosphere for child and parent alike.

We engage in an array of craft activities, singing sessions and opportunities for the children to learn through play. Parents have valued these sessions both for their children’s development and also for the informal support they have received from one another for things such as toilet training, sleeping, and behaviour. We often see the children grow in confidence as part of the group and develop their social skills, including sharing, turn taking and making friends – all important for their transition to nursery and reception classes.

Scouts

The 211th Scout Group meets at St. Matthew’s Church Hall on Monday evenings from 6:15pm to 7:45pm. We have places for boys and girls in all sections:

• Beavers (6-8yrs)
• Cubs (8-10yrs)
• Scouts (10-14yrs)
• Explorers (14-16yrs).

We have fun, play games, go out on trips, camping, swimming. We also can earn badges by learning doing our best to take up challenges, helping in the community and the church, by joining in their activities, services and Big Breakfast .
